    1898 (July 12): 'Anglo Saxon' illustrated card sent registered to Barmen, Germany franked by Trans-Mississippi 5 c. blue and 8 c. violet brown tied by 'Oakridge' cds, New York registered label of transit and datestamp. Barmen arrival (24/7) below. Message states on reverse: "I don't know how you feel to have this card come to you by the German Post Office. We are sorry so many people in your country hate us...". A charming and scarce usage.

    1930 (Sept 2): 'American Legion Convention / International Flight' card franked by Washington 2 c. red tied by Boston slogan cancel, mailed on the Russell Boardman / John Polando flight that was delayed, initially for nearly a year, with eventual acceptance datestamp on reverse of ISTANBUL in black (July 30, 1931). The card is signed by the Pilot, Russell Boardman, on reverse and the 'plane, the 'Cape Cod' flew direct from New York to Istanbul in a flying time of 50 hours and 8 minutes for the 5'011 mile journey. Extremely rare flight from both the American and Turkish point of view. Ex collection Bill Roberrtson Muller # 343 = 20'000 pts.

    1861: LENOIR, North Carolina 5 c. blue & orange imperforate created from wood-cut, the wonderful mint example applied on to a page of a diary piece (dated September 19, 1861) and in fine fresh conditon with good margins and of vivid colour. The diary piece is itself notarised on reverse with an embossed notary seal dated August 11, 1887 with the creator of the Lenoir 5 cent Die, Assistant Postmaster G.W.F.Harper (his father was the Postmaster), certifying the stamp to be his original example and the first Lenoir stamp printed. A fantastic item for the Classic Philatelist, very few unused copies exist of this adhesive. Signed Peckitt (Oct 21, 1909). Cert. Philatelic Foundation (2009)
