    1867 (Jan 4): Entire letter at double rate from Winterthur to Alexandrette, Syria struck with straight line 'Winterthur' despatch handstamp, thence via Geneva (Jan 5), Marseille and Smyrna (Jan 14) with dotted arrival datestamp on reverse 'Alexandrette / Syrie' and charged '18' décimes due. Smudge at lower right where 'PD' in black was applied in error and deleted by a fingerprint. A scarce entire to an unusual destination.

Reverse with airmail and registration labels and 7 p. 50 on 2 p. 50 blue pair alongside Athens cds and arrival. An attractive and scarce cover. Ex collection Bill Robertson.
