1 peso pink, the famous "Laarsen Stone" showing all 54 positions on the sheet of 54 subjects (9x6) on album page, it is believed by students that only about half of Laarsen's configuration is correct, however all 54 stamps are different in type as the 1 peso stone was adapted from the stone of the 2½ centavos value. The reconstruction shows 11 unused stamps including a pair, a top marginal used pair and six further marginal stamps, most being with manuscript cancellations although 11 bear handstamps. Condition is obviously variable but a wonderful and renowned plating study of immaculate provenance. An extraordinary showpiece.
Provenance: Collection Laarsen, Corinphila sale 47 (Dec 1960), lot 3715; Hubbard (Nov 1984), lot 114; Londoño de Tamayo, Corinphila sale 90 (Oct 1994), lot 6669.

50 c. green, the sensational piece with the block of four and single 1877 Condor 5 c. mauve in combination, the block with margins all round and in a vibrant shade, all cancelled by bold strikes of circular TUNJA handstamps in black. There is a tiny scissor cut mentioned for accuracy only inbetween the top pair and not touching design or affecting appearance, otherwise in a superb state of preservation. There are just two known used blocks of this stamp (the other also on piece, was probably cut from the same registered parcel as this and was also cancelled at Tunja). Wonderful and one of the great rarities of Colombian philately that has graced many of the finest collections.
