1853 (March 10): 10 c. black (2, one touched at the upper left, otherwise both stamps with broad margins all around) and 45 c. blue ribbed paper (broad margins all around), tied by three strikes of framed Milano datestamp (Müller 4157h) to outer letter sheet, sent to Ostende/Belgium with 'P.D.' in black and red BOLLO INSUFFICIENTE in oval circle alongside, 'Coeln Verviers' transit mark in black, ALLEMAGNE PAR HERVE Belgian transit mark in green (van der Linden no. 81), and Ostende arrival mark in red on reverse. Correct rate was 45 c. for the Vereinsporto and 30 c. for the Belgian part, the cover was therefore taxed. 45 c. slate-blue, type II on hand-made paper in a block of four plus single, all tied by CREMA 7/7 datestamp to fragment of a registered letter with on reverse an additional 30 c. brown, type I on hand-made paper (corner cut away) for the registration, tied by two crossed strikes of one-line RACCOMANDATA. All the stamps were removed for quality control and replaced with hinges in their original positions, the rare block of four is touched at top while the other three margins are good to large. In spite of some minor imperfections (short pre-cut in block of four) an exceptionally rare item. Signed Grioni and Enzo Diena, cert. Dr. Avi (2007) Sassone = EUR 130'000 for a block of four.
