    1850: 60 r. black, a fine large margined vertical pair used on 1863 cover from Maranhao to Bordeaux tied by segmented cork cancels in black with PERNAMBUCO despatch cds alongside (March 3). Reverse with "Encaminada  de Pernambuco p. M J Ramos" Forwarding Agent notation in manuscript. Fine "Bresil / Bordeaux" entry marking (April 25) on front and '16' decime charge marking in black. A fresh and very fine cover. Cert. PF (1998).

    1861: 280 reis vermilion, a horizontal pair with clear to large margins all round, used on 1862 cover from Rio de Janeiro to France endorsed "Vap. Estramadure", tied by "Correio Geral Da Corte" datestamp in black and also tied by framed "P.D." in blue. Further framed "P.D." in red at left and reverse with Bordeaux arrival cds (Sept 20) in black. Rare. Signed Calves. Cert. PF (1998).

    1878/79: Dom Pedro 10 r. vermilion (2), 20 r. violet (two horizontal pairs), 100 r. green and 200 r. black; all used on registered cover from Rio de Janeiro to Paris cancelled by segmented cork handstamps in red. Oval REGISTRADO alongside in red and "Lille A Paris" TPO at right (Feb 26). Reverse with Rio de Janeiro datestamp in red (Jan 27) and "Ouest 2" TPO cds. A delightful and extremely rare four colour franking. Cert. Holcombe (1985).

    1895 (June 27): Mercury 200 r. black & orange illustrated postal stationery letter-card (H&G A33), sent registered to SURINAME, up-rated with Mercury 200 r. black & yellow, slight scuff mark, tied by Rio de Janeiro cds. Thence by French Paquebot with "Ligne J-PAq. Fr. No. 5" datestamp in blue (June 28) and London transit in red (July 19). Reverse with Paramaribo cds (Aug 16) in black, a journey time of 2 months. An attractive usage to a most unusual destination.

    1858/1861: Covers (3) from Rio de Janeiro to Denmark, all three sent unpaid, the 1858 and 1860 covers with British P.O. in Rio de Janeiro despatch cds's (sent via ships Avon and Oneida) and charged 1/4 d. in manuscript for a total of 78 skilling due and the 1860 cover (at double weight) charged 2/8d. for a total of 163 skilling due; the 1861 cover with bold "Correio Geral Da Corte" despatch cds (Dec 2) and mailed via Bordeaux with a charge due of 116 skilling. A fine and scarce group to an unusual destination.
