    1867: First Issue 1 r. red, a single example used on 1868 entire letter from Acajutla to Tomás Medina in San Salvador cancelled by lozenge of dots in black. A rare internal usage. Cert. BPA (1987).rnNote: Tomás Medina (1803-1884) was Acting President of Salvador in 1848 and Vice-President from 1852-1854.

    1874: "Contra Sello 1874" handstamp in black on 2 r. green, a single example used on 1874 cover to Liverpool endorsed "per Royal Mail" with San Salvador despatch cds in black adjacent (Dec 29). Three line dated "PANAMA / TRANSIT" in black (12 Jan 1875) and struck with "1/6d." due marking in black (which also ties the adhesive). Liverpool cds of arrival (Feb 113) in black at left.     1874: "Contra Sello 1874" handstamp in black on 2 r. green, a single example used on 1877 cover to Cincinnatti, USA  endorsed "via Panama" tied by framed "FRANCO" handstamp in blue, with "ADMINISTRACION GENERAL DE CORREOS / SALVADOR" cachet in blue at right. "NEW YORK / DUE 10 CTS" transit (April 26) in black and Cincinnati arrival on reverse. An extremely rare issue on a particularly fine cover.

    1874: "Contra Sello / 1874" overprint in black on ½ r. blue, a block of four, used on 1875 cover to Bordeaux, tied by "FRANCO" framed handstamps in black. "Correos del Salvador / Paquetes" cds of despatch at right (Nov 24) struck in blue. "PANAMA-TRANSIT" cds (Dec 4) in black and thence via London (Dec 30) with cds on reverse in red. Struck there with "GB / 1F 90c." accountancy handstamp in black and charged "15" décimes handstruck due upon arrival in Bordeaux (Dec 31). The block with slight splitting and cover with piece missing at lower right but an issue of outstanding rarity on letter.

    1874: "Conra Sello" in black on ½ r. blue and 2 r. green, used on 1874 cover to Seebeck in New York endorsed "con una encomienda adjunta" in manuscript at top, each cancelled by framed "FRANCO" handstamps in blue on despatch with "ADMINISTRACION GENERAL DE CORREOS / SALVADOR" cachet in blue below (Sept 1). Taxed upon arrival with manuscript "4" and "US CHARGE TO COLLECT - 40 Cents" handstamp in black. Reverse with New York arrival cds (Sept 19). Some wrinkles and small envelope imperfections but a rare and most attractive franking to the notorious printer N. Seebeck. Cert. Scheller (2008).

    1879: 2 c. rose, 5 c. blue, 10 c. black and 20 c. violet, all used on 1883 registered cover at double rate to Munich, tied by circular negative "Star" handstamps in black and by red "Correos del Salvador" datestamp. Framed "REJISTRADO" below in blue. Mailed via London with registered transit in red (Dec 28) and oval "R" applied in black, reverse with Munchen arrival (Dec 30). Minor aging of absolutely no significance, a quite wonderful and colourful four colour franking for the specialist. Cert. A. Rendon AIEP (1986).

    Lots & Collections 1795/1813c.: The collection from Colonial period onwards (14 covers/fronts) with 1807 entire letter to Guatemala with framed "SON / SONATE" in black, 1800c. front to Guatemala with "S. SALVADOR" in black and cover rated "4" reales with fine framed "SAN / SALVADOR" in black, 1800c. front with fine "SANTA / ANA" in black, 1813 front with fine "SAN / MIGUEL" in brown and another example on 1820 cover, front to San Virente with fine str. line "METAPAN" rated "8" reales and another rated "11" reales to Guatemala with superb "METAPAN" in black, circa 1800 front with framed "Sensun / tepeque" and another with "S. Vicente" in black etc. Generally fair to very fine, a scarce group.
