    1856 (July): Cover from Montemor-o-Novo to Milano, Lombardy bearing 1855 25 r. blue with smooth hair, fair to good margins, tied by clear barred '30' numeral with matching framed octagonal "MONTE MOR / O NOVO" handstamp alongside. Reverse with LISBOA and blue BADAJOZ transit cds's as well as Milano arrival (Aug 3) cds and distribution cachet. Sideflaps cut, nevertheless an interesting item with the Portuguese inland rate franked, taxed in Spain with '1 R.' in blue and sent in closed packet to Lombardy.

    1866 (March 4): Entire letter from Lisboa to Mérida, Spain bearing 1862 10 r. orange and 25 r. rosa, two fine and fresh examples with good to enormous margins, the 10 reis corner marginal, tied by dotted '1' numeral with clear matching LISBOA despatch cds alongside, reverse with crisp "MÉRIDA / BADAJOZ" arrival cds of the following day.     1865 (Jan 4): Envelope from Lisboa to Grevenbroich nearby Cologne, Prussia bearing 1862 100 r. lilac, two fine examples with good to large margins, tied by clear but lightly oily dotted '1' numeral with clear matching LISBOA despatch cds and framed "P.D." alongside, reverse with indistinct delivery cds (Jan 10) from Köln. Tear in the backflap, nevertheless an appealing double rate cover to Prussia.rnNote: The cover is directed to Diedrich Uhlhorn junior (1843 - 1915), a German engineer and fruit grower.

    1875 (Oct 6): Cover from Port to Marseille bearing 1870 10 r. yellow-orange, 20 r. bistre and 50 r. green, three fine adhesives with overall good perforation, the 20 r. with scissor separation, tied by fair dotted '4' numeral with matching PORTO despatch cds as well as framed PD and indistinct French "PORTUGAL St J. DE LUZ" entry cds, both in red alongside, reverse with French ambulant and Marseille arrival cds (Oct 12) cds's. Some imperfections, nevertheless an interesting three-colour franking in October 1875, when the bilateral conventions were still in force as France did not join the GPU earlier than January 1876.

Interesting ensemble.
