    1855 (Jan 6): Entire letter from Lagos to Genova, charged initially at "1/-" in manuscript, mailed via London where framed "COLONES / ART. 18" applied in red (only applied on mail from West Africa in 1856; Van der Linden fig. 775). Thence via Calais with Ambulante cds on obverse (Feb 6) and Paris to Genova where charged "17" centesemi due upon delivery. A rare entire.

    1875 (Apr 7): 4 d. carmine and 6 d. blue-green, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 12½, used on registered cover to Wolverhampton, tied by clear strikes of "LAGOS" code B circular datestamps (Apr. 7) in black, with information strike below. Straight line "REGISTERED LETTER" in red at left, circular "PAID / LIVERPOOL / BR. PACKET" cds in red (8 MY 75) and double ring "REGISTERED / LIVERPOOL" cds of the same day in red. Rated "5+2=7 d." credit in red crayon. Wolverhampton arrival cds (May 8). 6d. Stamp with minor short perfs at base and crease, nonetheless a very attractive and rare entire.

    Lot# : 935 Lagos

    1876 ( Mar. 27): 2d blue, wmk. Crown CC, perf 12½, three used examples of vibrant colour on cover from Lagos to Wolverhampton from the "Bailey and Son, Wolverhampton" correspondence, cancelled by three LAGOS obliterators with "L" in center in black. A fine strike of "LAGOS" code A datestamp is partially obscured, a "PAID/LIVERPOOL/BR. PACKET" in red (29 April 76) cds (Robertson type S9) was applied on arrival in England, the franking is split in the domestic 1d. and 5d. credit by two red manuscript markings. Central stamp unobrusive corner fault, the reverse affected by rough opening, otherwise a very fine, desirable letter. rnrn

    1882: 4 d. carmine, wmk. Crown Ca, a used example on 1882 cover to Marseille endorsed "via Liverpool", neatly tied by barred obliterator in black with "LAGOS" despatch cds at left (Sept 12). "Paid / Liverpool / Br. Packet" cds in red of transit (Oct 24) and reverse with Clais à Paris transit cds in black. Scarce.
