    Transatlantic Flight Dublin - Harbour Grace, Newfoundland 1930 (June): Typewritten headed lettersheet 'AN ROINN PUIST AGUS TELEGRAFA, BAILE ATHA CLIATH (Departement of Post & Telegraphs, Dublin) dated June 20th (1930): "... I am directed by Minister for Posts and Telegraphs to state that it is not proposed to despatch mails on the occasion of Captain Kinsford-Smith's flight form Ireland to the United States, together with envelope to London (June 11), taxed on arrival with 4d. and signed by Charles Kingsfort Smith, possibly carried by favour of the crew on their positioning flight Croydon - Baldonnel (June 4).

    Air mail provisionals made for the James Mollison Flight 1932 (Aug. 18): "ATLANTIC AIR MAIL AUGUST" magenta overprint on 1 s. 'Sword of Light' light blue, unused with original gum, handstamped on reverse 'F.J.Field' in violet and 'Jam' in manuscript (J.A. Mollison). A very scarce unused example, one of only 15 mint stamps in existance. Cert. Francis  J. Field R.D.P. (1982). The collectors research revealed the existence of only 15 mint stamps with this private overprint, in five singles, one pair and two blocks of four, with one housed in the British Library.

A very scarce unused horizontal pair and the only mint example in existance. The collectors research revealed the existance of only 15 mint stamps with this private overprint, as there are only five singles, one pair and two blocks of four with one housed in the British Library.

Mollison on his first solo record flight from Dublin to New York, with his own signature and endorsed "Carried by me on first first Transatlantic solo East-West crossing". On front with golden Dublin City Seal with adjacent endorsement of Alfred Byrne, Lord Mayor of Dublin' at left, plus another smaller red seal of St. John signed 'Jas. W. Britain Mayor of St. John, New Brunswick' with add. note 'received Aug.19/32'. On reverse with the golden New York City Seal and 'received at New York by T.H.Ayder Aug. 21/32' in manuscript, in absence of Mayor Jimmy Walker. An attractive and rare cover. One of only seven covers carried.

    1928 (Sept. 13):'Ile de France' - Catapult Mail from Ireland to Canada, registered photocard from Dublin franked with 3s 6½d., with attached green label. "Catapult airmail per SS 'Ile de France' via Plymouth, sent via "London 16 Sep.26" and "New York 9-25 1928" to "Winnipeg Sept. 27". Unfortunately the catapult aircraft had a forced landing into the sea near the Sicilly Islands on Sept. 13. This accident stopped all further flights. A rare Irish acceptance and one of only three items known.

Some edgewear at bottom, otherwise a rare set franking on an aircover to an unusual destination.

    Hand Illustrated Covers - First Regular Transtlantic Service Foynes - New York 1939 (June 30 - July 1) by Pan Am: Fine group of four hand illustrated envelopes "Eire - First Trans-Atlantic Airmail U.S.A",incl. three diff. designs with one showing additional text: "Carried by 'Yankee Clipper on the first East to West crossing of the regular service" in red ink. A scarce assembly, all with violett flight cachet and "N.Y Jul. 1" arrival mark on reverse. All hand drawn by John Damien Bourke, brother of Charles F. Bourke of Waterford. Most attractive.

    John 'Paddy' Saul 1928/68: Large collection of photographs and documents concerning the 'Southern Cross' - Record Flight with many hundred photographs, the majority original photos of John 'Paddy' Saul's family archive, inluding many diff. flyer's portraits, receptions, his Royal Air Force years (1937/43), News papers cut-outs, press-photos, including an album dedicated to Charles Ulm, original documents, personal souvenirs in six large albums and three original photo-albums from the family estate.     1847/1970: Collection in one large self designed volume beginning with an unfranked letter from KILLALA to DUBLIN bearing a Circular 2 PAID mark and a blue despatch KILLALA, and an 1847 "SOCIETY OF FRIENDS" letter dealing with feeding the poor in DUBLIN. A small range of forerunners is followed by a good section of overprints including 1922 to 10/- with full og, a 1925 issue 5/- superb used, and the 1935 high values all vfu. 1940 definitives with 1/- full og. Later issues with a small number of letters are mostly collected in both conditions. A very clean recommendable lot.

    1877/1913: The collection of hand-illustrated covers/cards (10) and cover fronts (6) with an exceptionally beautiful group of five 1877 fronts each bearing an 1864 1 d. red used from Limerick to Bray, Co. Dublin each with pen illustrated animal scenes (featuring a Swan, Mouse, Deer) and two with negative scenes one including a Donkey; two covers franked by 1870 ½ d. pairs used from Limerick to Dublin with superbly rendered depictions of a fieldmouse and a dog chasing a rabbit; 1 d. pink envelope with coloured illustrations of the seaside (1881), 1897 mourning cover with cat illustrations used with 1 d. lilac, 1907 colour illustrated card depicting rainy Irish weather, wonderful 1911 handmade card with spectacular painting of an Irish registered motor-bike and sidecar locally used in Dublin and 1915 wrapper to Canada bearing a fine colour illustration of Killarney. Some minor imperfections but a seldom seen group.
