Illustrated in the "De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 6067, this example showing extensive hand-painted background in greyish-blue and black. Signed off by Sir William Mercer of the Crown Agents as "Approved". The design approved, however the head-plate was to change to the one prepared by Emil Fuchs on the issued stamps. Struck with "SALVED FROM / S S JEBBA" in violet and reverse resealed with marginal selvedge, the adhesive heavily cancelled at Exeter (March 20) and readdressed to Wells.
