Crown CA, perf. 14, an unused example showing variety "Double Surcharge with "TWO" in Black and "TWO" in Red", of fine appearance and strong colour, small part og., with "J.A.M-K to w.g.a. 1891" manuscript in red ink on reverse - J.A. McKinley to W.G. Aikman, 1891 - William J. McKinley was the Postmaster in 1888, this stamp, presumably purchased by Aikman from a relative of same. An extremely rare stamp: just ten stamps surcharged thus, one was lost in a fire at the Belize Post Office a few years after issue, another is housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. 1891/1901: De La Rue Essay for the $ 2 value issued in 1899, with an Imperforate printed Postage & Revenue design in dull lilac applied to card with "British Honduras" in blue, the Duty Plate entirely hand-painted in Chinese white and the value "$2." picked out in carmine; fresh and very fine. Cuthbert Brothers / St George's Caye Service 1895: Cover from St. George's Cay to Belize bearing imperforate Type-written violet on white laid paper "Caye / Service / 3 cents" (R.L. 43) tied by "CUTHBERT BROS." handstamp with "SEP 9 1895" both in faded mauve ink. Minor creases to stamp and letter but nevertheless one of the finest examples recorded. The Cuthbert Brothers' Steam Yacht sailed daily to Belize but locals abused the service, handing letters to the Captain for mailing in Belize without any payment. Cuthbert considered printing a stamp but was alarmed by the cost and produced the adhesive seen on this cover which is type-written on thick white paper.
