New Currency - Provisional Local Surcharges 1888 (March): "TWO" in red on 50 c. on 1 s. grey, wmk. Crown CA, perf. 14, an unused example showing variety "Double Surcharge with "TWO" in Black and "TWO" in Red", of fine appearance and strong colour, small part og., with "J.A.M-K to w.g.a. 1891" manuscript in red ink on reverse - J.A. McKinley to W.G. Aikman, 1891 - William J. McKinley was the Postmaster in 1888, this stamp, presumably purchased by Aikman from a relative of same. An extremely rare stamp: just ten stamps surcharged thus, one was lost in a fire at the Belize Post Office a few years after issue, another is housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
