    1926 (March 1): Ramon Franco Flight Montevideo - Buenos Aires with his plane 'Plus Ultra', registered envelope (No: 023638) from Montevideo to Buenos Aires, franked with Airpost 10 c. scarlet and additional National postage, tied by duplex machine cancel, endorsed "Por hidroavion Plus Ultra" and "Gentilezza del heroico aviador Comandante Franco" in manuscript. On reverse officially sealed by "CIERRE OFICIAL / CORREOS DE LA REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY and backstamped "BUENOS AIRES ARGENTINA 2 MARS 26 13-15". Slightly stained envelope as ususal, vertical and horizontal bend away from adhesives.rnThe Spanish Commander Ramon Franco flew from Palos de la Frontera, in Huelva, Spain on January 22 and arrived in Buenos Aires on January 26 and stopped at Gran Canaria, Cape Verde, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo. He carried three letters from the King of Spain to the Presidents of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The 10,270 km journey was completed in 59 hours and 39 minutes. After this famous flight he returned to Montevideo (Feb 25) and on March 1 he was given by the General Post Master 14 letters to carry back to Buenos Aires, before returning to Spain. The event appeared in most of the major newspapers worldwide. Throughout the Spanish-speaking world the Spanish aviators were glamorously acclaimed, particularly in Argentina and Spain, where thousands gathered at Christopher Columbus square in Madrid.
