    1868 (Feb 25): Cover front from Antigua to Nevis mailed during  stamp shortage, prepaid 2 d. in red manuscript and struck with superb "♚ / PAID / AT / ANTIGUA" handstamp in red with single ring "Antigua" cds (Feb 25) in red at left and by two line "ANIGUA / SHIP LETTER" in black.     1858 (June 28): Great Britain 1856 6 d. lilac used on 1858 entire letter to Whitehaven tied by bold strike of "A02" obliterator of St. John's. Reverse with ANTIGUA double arc cds (June 28) in black, London cds in blue (July 17) and Whitehaven and Egremont cds's (July 18) in black. The earliest recorded usage of British stamps at St. John's (see Parmenter & Gordon page 6/6). A fine and rare entire.

    1858 (Sept 11): Great Britain 1856 6 d. lilac, two horizontal pairs in a rich shade, used on 1858 quadruple weight entire letter to Whitehaven, all tied by bold individual strikes of "A02" obliterator of St. John's. Reverse with ANTIGUA double arc cds (Sept 12) in black, London cds in red and Whitehaven cds (Oct 2) in black.
