    1860: Entire letter from Nevis to London, endorsed 'per Steamer' prepaid '5' in manuscript with superb strike of "♚ / PAID / AT / NEVIS" in red at right. Reverse with double arc 'Nevis' despatch cds in black (Sept 10) and obverse with 'London / Paid' arrival cds (Sept 27) in red. Two file folds do not detract from a superb strike of this rare marking Gi = £ 4'500.

Envelope minutely trimmed at left but a very rare cover - one of only three perf. 11½ covers recorded this being unique with  a horizontal pair, mailed at the newly introduced UPU rate - introduced in October 1879 and lasting until October 1880 only.
