1883 (March): Piece from the De La Rue record book bearing at top right engraved Die Proofs of the 1867 4 d. value, the 1866 6 d. value and a lithographed Plate Proof of the 1 s. value with 'Missing Virgin', all with good margins all round and printed in black; with notations below in manuscript "Virgin Islands. The Crown Agents in their letter 10th March 1883 (C.A. vol 9, p. 85) tell us the colours to use for the ½d., 1d., and 2½d. Postage Stamps, i.e. International Colours [green, red and blue], These are the only duties we are concerned with as the other duties 4d., 6d. and 1/- are litho stamps and if they are indented again we had better recommend surface stamps with appropriate colours".
