    1856 (Oct 1): Diligencias 80 c. green / deep green / emerald green, a complete unused reconstruction of the sheet of 35 types (5 x 7), with position 1 showing the "Small 80" variety, position 28 showing the diagonal crack under the duty tablet at base, nearly all stamps with clear to large margins all round which is exceptionally difficult on this issue which was printed with a separation space of under 1 mm. between many of the stamps, choice and fine reconstruction of which perhaps two or three complete reconstructions now exist.     1860: Thick figures 60 c. dull grey lilac, three single examples with large margins all round, the first example with interesting plate flaw in top margin, used on 1862 cover from Montevideo to Buenos Ayres endorsed ‘Par Mississippi’ of the River Plate Line tied by oval ‘Admon De Correos / Montevideo’ datestamps (March 26) in black.     1864:  Coat of Arms 12 c. blue, a fine large margined example used on 1864 cover to Buenos Aires, tied by 'Montevideo' datestamp (Aug 31) in black, scare an a fine usge.

    1875: Cover from Montevideo to Dego, Italy franked by 1866 10 c. green perf., tied by '4' numeral obliterator in black. Carried by French Paquebot 'Parana' and struck with octagonal MONTEVIDEO / PAQ. FR. J No. 2 datestamp (Oct 28) in black (Salles fig. 1076). Paris cds in blue on reverse and struck with framed Convention marking "F*56" in blue on front and taxed '10' with corresponding Italy 1870 Postage Due 1 lire tied 'Dego' cds on receipt (Nov 18). Minor imperfections but scarce - Uruguay joined the UPU in July 1880.

    1925 (March 1): Ramon Franco Flight Montevideo - Buenos Aires wtih his plane 'Plus Ultra', registered envelope (No: 023634) from Montevideo to Buenos Aires, franked with Airpost 10 c. scarlet and additional National postage (perfs. slightly stained) tied by duplex machine cancel, endorsed "Por hidroavion Plus Ultra" and "Gentilezza del heroico aviador Comandante Franco" in manuscript and arrival mark on reverse. Ex collection Nicolas Socorro with handwritten note included, mentioning  the existence of just fourteen letters carried on this famous flight.rnThe Spanish Commander Ramon Franco flew from Palos de la Frontera, in Huelva, Spain on January 22 and arrived in Buenos Aires on January 26 and stopped at Gran Canaria, Cape Verde, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo. He carried three letters from the King of Spain to the Presidents of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The 10,270 km journey was completed in 59 hours and 39 minutes. After this famous flight he returned to Montevideo (Feb 25) and on March 1 he was given by the General Post Master 14 letters to carry back to Buenos Aires, before returning to Spain. The event appeared in most of the major newspapers worldwide. Throughout the Spanish-speaking world the Spanish aviators were glamorously acclaimed, particularly in Argentina and Spain where thousands gathered at Christopher Columbus square in Madrid.rnProvenance: Corinphila Sale 76, March 1987, lot 6253.
