    1858: Entire letter sent unpaid from Rio de Janeiro to Stockholm, Sweden endorsed 'per Tyne Steamer', the reverse with fair  British P.O. 'Rio Janeiro' double arc cds (Aug 12) in black and manuscript '1/4d.' charge. London transit (Sept 3) in black and thence mailed via Hamburg with 'K.S.P.A. / Hamburg' transit (Sept 6) and various due marks of receipt. An unusual destination for Brazilian mail at this date.

    1855 (June 12): Entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Gothenburg, Sweden internally endorsed 'per Solent', struck in London with transit (July 10) on obverse, endorsed 'via Ostend' at top and reverse with Danish & Swedish P.O. in Hamburg transit cds (July 12). An unusual routing to an unusual destination.

    1867: Entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Vallorbes, Vaud, Switzerland struck on despatch with "Rio De Janeiro" cds in black (March 23) and carried on French Packet "Estramadure". Circular 'Bresil / Bordeaux' entry marking in red (April 13) and struck with framed "F. / 30" Convention marking (Van der Linden fig. 1163) in black. Reverse with 'Ambulant Circulare' datestamp and Vallorbes arrival (April 19) and charged '110' rappen in red manuscript. A scarce entire.

    1843: Bull's Eyes - the set of three values with 30 r. and 90 r. intermediate impressions and 60 late intermediate impression, all with large margins all round, each neatly and lightly cancelled in black with part "Correio Geral da Corte" datestamps in black, the 60 r. with minor corner bend and the 90 r. slightly rubbed not affecting the appearance. A fine and attractive set Scott = $ 2'000+.

    1850: Inclinado 30 r. black on 'Bull's Eye' yellowish medium paper, Type II, the superb used example with large even margins all round, neatly cancelled by large part 'Correio Ceara' datestamp (Dec 2) in black. An exceptional and extremely rare stamp, formerly a horizontal pair housed in the Niso Vianna collection and since separated, this example being much finer than the other known example used in Rio de Janeiro (Walter Taveira sale, Investphila, 16 March 2012, lot 1372). Just three used examples of this rarity are recorded and one of the highlights of Brazilian classic philately. Cert. Peter Meyer (2014) RHM 5C = RR.

    1888: 700 r. violet used with 1890/91 Southern Cross 500 r. slate on 200 r. postal stationery envelope sent registered to London, lightly cancelled in black. Framed registration cachet at left and London arrivals (July 29 and 31) in black and in red on obverse. Some soiling but a scarce use of the 700 reis on letter.

    1898: Surcharged newspaper stamp 300 r. on 200 r. black in a hor. pair and 1899 100 r. on 50 r. green grey, tied by "RIO DE JANEIRO 29 JAN 1902" cds to registered shipmail cover to Yokohama, endorsed "p. Chili" (shipname), reverse with London and Hongkong transit and Yokohama arrival datestamps. A Japanese address label was attached to the obverse.
