Lot# 4092 - 191-195 Auction

  • Lot# : 4092 Mexico

    1 / 1
Mexico City 4 r. carmine, just touched to large margins, used in combination with United States 1855 10 c. green, four margins, on cover from Mexico City to Charleston, South Carolina, tied by ADMON GRAL. DE CORREOS oval handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 817) in black. New Orleans faint transit cds at left (Nov 21) and STEAMSHIP / 10 charge marking in black alongside. A splendid and extremely rare cover. Cert Mepsi (1993).

Note: It is unclear whether the 10 c. green paid any postage - the 4 reales was enough to carry the cover from Mexcio City to the Port of Vera Cruz by Extraordinario and the Steamship / 10 marking shows the cover to be a single rate usage.
