    Retaliatory Rate / Restored Rate 1849 (Feb 7): Cover from New York to Nancy, France endorsed "per "Canada" via Liverpool" (Cunard) sent unpaid and struck in transit with "America/Liverpool" datestamp (Feb 19) with month date inverted; London cds (Feb 20) and framed "Colonies / &c. Art.13" in red. Charged 17 decimes due on receipt. File fold but a scarce cover-the last sailing under the brief "Restored Rate" period before the USA-British Treaty became effective.
