    1897: De La Rue Essay on card (91 x 116 mm.) marked "A" at top left, for proposed 2 m. value printed in pale and deep blue in size as selected, with further hand-painted "SOUDAN POSTAGE" and embellishments to the Reins, Spears, Rider and Inner Frame in black and Chinese white. Arabic caption below hand-painted in rose-red and dated at top right "July 2nd 97" in black. Illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 6147.
