    1884: Egypt 20 pa. on 5 pi. green, a vertical pair paying the 1 piastre Soldier's Letter rate, addressed to Sevenoaks, Kent endorsed "On Active Service, Lt. J.F. Burn Murdoch, The Royals" and tied by "WADI-HALFA" bilingual cds (Dec 6, 1884) in black with information strike alongside. The cover, with full original contents, shows Alexandria transit cds (Dec 13) and Sevenoaks arrival (Dec 20). Tape at right to prevent envelope tear otherwise a rare and most attractive cover.rnNote: The promoted Major J. F. Burn Murdoch, 1st Dragoons, Commanding Eastern Cavalry, was mentioned in Despatches by Kitchener at Dongola on 30 September 1896.
