1888: 2 d. lilac & black, a used horizontal pair on 1891 cover to East London, Cape Colony, tied by "PALACHWE TOWN / KHAMAS TOWN" cds's in black (Feb 6). Reverse with "Mafeking / Bechuanaland" cds (Feb 12), "Kimberley / CGH" cds (Feb 17) and East London hooded arrival (Feb 20). The cover, headed Manica Land (now S.E. Zimbabwe) with complete original contents (with transcript) - "The road from Manicahas not been made or begun, though of course there are footpaths all the way, some of the Company's Police start for Beira tomorrow...4 prospectors came up yesterday...the carriers carry about 50 lbs. for about 2 yards per diem of the cheapest white cloth you can buy...".
