    1874: De La Rue Essay for proposed 1 d. value, with printed head-plate vignette in dull green with hand-painted surround in deep green and turquoise and lettering of SOUTH AUSTRALIA and ONE PENNY picked out in Chinese white on small card dated "24 JUN 74" at top. Illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 6039. The Essay, was rejected in favour of the issued January 1875 1 d. blue-green.
