    1841 (July 21): Prepaid entire letter headed 'Bunting Dale, Geelong, Port Philip, New South Wales', written by Benjamin Hurst to Rochdale, Lancashire struck with framed "PAID AT / GEELONG" in red with reverse showing oval "GEELONG / ♛ / NEW S. WALES" in black and MELBOURNE example of the same type also in black, each displaying well on flaps. London straight line "SHIP LETTER" in black on obverse and charged '8d.' due in manuscript for incoming Ship Letter. Sensible flap strengthening and interesting note from contents "(Your) letter I presume did not reach me sooner in consequence of it being addressed to South Australia instead of New South Wales". The Geelong Post Office opened in 1840. A superb and rare entire.rnNote: The writer, Benjamin Hurst, arrived at Geelong in 1838.
