    Austrian Levant Shipmail, Origin Markings for Ship letters, Mediterranean Sea 1883 (Feb 2): Cover from Beirut to Lyon, bearing 1867 2 s. coarse whiskers and 3 s. green fine whiskers, both adhesives in fine and fresh vertical pairs, tied / cancelled by two excellent strikes of two-line "COL VAP. DA / COSPOLI" handstamp in black (Tranmer fig. 15), struck in Trieste transit. Beyrouth company cachet in bluish green alongside. Reverse with thimble JAFFA (Feb 2, 83) and ALEXANDRIEN (Feb 6, 83) transit cds's. Horizontal file fold well away from the attractive franking, one short perf, part of receiver's name redrawn, nevertheless an extraordinary mixed franking to pay the 10 soldi UPU rate and an attractive cover of considerable scarcity.
