    1852 (Dec 2): Entire letter from Rio Grande do Sul to Lisbon, struck with oval Forwarding Agents cachet 'Reimers Samman & Co. / Rio de Janeiro' in blue with date (Dec 14) in manuscript. Endorsed 'Vapor Tay' and mailed via the British P.O. with fine RIO-JANEIRO cds (Dec 14) in black on reverse alongside 'P. Transatlantico' datestamp (Jan 11, 1853) in blue and charged '240' reis due on delivery. Disinfected, probably on arrival with two diagonal slits.
