    Messageries Impériales 1865 (Oct 14): Entire letter from Montevideo to New York endorsed "pr. Steamer via Bordeaux", franked by France 1862/63 40 c. orange vertical pair and 80 c. carmine in a creased horizontal strip of three tied by dotted Anchor lozenge in black. Octagonal "MONTEVIDEO" Consular datestamp (Oct 15) at right and the entire carried by Brazilian Ship "Wanama" to Rio as the French Packet "Carmel" was in dock due to a boiler explosion. The adhesives also tied by octagonal datestamp and carried by "Navarre" to Bordeaux, thence via closed bag to New York (Dec 5) where treated as fully paid.
