    1883 (Sept 21): De La Rue "Existing and proposed Schemes of Colours", ex the DLR records, the stamps printed on Perkins Bacon plates, with toned ½ d green, perf 12 affixed at top, and vertically placed examples of the proposed 1883/85 isue with 1 d. drab, perf. 14, 2½ d. on 1 d. lake, perf. 14, unissued THREE PENCE on 1 d. lilac perf. 13½ (not mauve), 4 d. bright blue perf. 13½, 6 d. bright green perf. 12 and 1 s. orange-vermilion perf. 12; listed as "Exising Colours", with 1 s. annotated "This colour cannot be improved upon". The overlapping sheet with 'proposed' colours and the 1880 type 5 s. at base now sadly detached. Illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 5532.
