    1873: 4 r. violet, single example used on 22 January 1877 entire letter endorsed 'par Steamer' to Marseille, written by a Ship's Captain and mailed at the port of San José de Guatemala, the adhesive remaining uncancelled. Carried to New York with cds (Feb 12) on front and '50' manuscript docketing in blue crayon noted and the stamp cancelled in blue crayon and circular 'T' marking applied (Guatemala had yet to join the UPU). On arrival in France via England struck with with 'Etats Unis / Angl. Amb. Calais' entry cds (Feb 24) in black and the entire was taxed with manuscript '12' décimes due to pay. The stamp with toned perfs. but one of just seven covers recorded with this value by Goodman. A most unusual and very rare entire. Cert.
