    International Postal Connections to Europe - Russia 1869 (Sept 8): Cover from Cavalla to Odessa, bearing 1864 Arms 5 s. rose, perf. 9½ in mixed franking with 1867 10 s. blue, two fresh adhesives, tied by "CAVALLA 8/9" cds in blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 633) with Odessa arrival cds (Sept 5, Julian calendar) alongside. Cover with archival folds away from the stamps, these applied slightly over the edge of the cover, an unusual mixed franking to a very scarce destination, illustrated in 'Die Österreichische Post in der Levante' on page 436.rnProvenance: Collection Henry Houser, Robson Lowe, June 1992, lot 1084.rnNote: The cover is franked at the unified Levant rate of 15 soldi. Such covers to Trieste exist and have not been charged upon arrival, this franking was also accepted by the Russian post.
