    1873 (March 25): Great Britain 1864 1 d. red pl. 134, five examples all from the 'A' row and 1867 10 d. red-brown, straight edge at right, used on 1873 cover from Mayagüez to Genova, Italy tied by three bold strikes of the "F85" obliterator in blue with "Mayaguez Porto Rico / Paid" cds in blue at base (March 25). Struck with INSUFFICIENTLY / PREPAID in black with manuscript "1d." alongside with light pencil erasure and thus probably prepaid in cash to make the correct 1/4d. rate. Circular 'PD' in red applied in London (April 14) confirms this. Genova arrival (April 17) on reverse. Illustrated in Parmenter & Gordon on page 5/62. A beautiful cover for the connoisseur. Cert.
