    Embossed Issues 1857/61: 3 d. rose, the fine used vertical tête-bêche pair, of excellent impression and huge margins all round for this rare stamp, each impression cancelled lightly by numeral "1" in bars obliterator of Pietermaritzburg in black. An outstanding and famous pair, now safely removed from the original backing piece which accompanies the lot. Just four examples are known: one with heavy manuscript pen cross cancellation, another with two Crown cancels and the third a shoe-shaped defective example offered some time ago at $ 39'000 by Argyll Etkin in Johannesburg. One of the greatest of all British Colonial rarities in absolutely superlative condition. Cert.
