1822 (May 15): Entire letter endorsed at top 'S.N.M.' (Service Nacional Militar) addressed to a Captain the Lancers in Quito. Written by a Spansih Officer just eight days before the Battle of Pichincha by Juan Nuñoz, the cover bears part of a Military handstamp on reverse reading ATALLON LIGERO / E TANISAGUA in black. 1822 (June 1): 'Republica de Colombia / Ejercito Liberatador' printed letter from Quito to Tabacundo, endorsed on 'Servicio' and struck on front panel with FRANCA / QUITO in red. Letter written by a secretary, clearly signed at base by the liberator General Jose Antonio Sucre, later to become the second President of Bolivia and later still, the sixth Preseident of Peru. 1822 (Aug 22/29): 'Republica de Colombia' printed letter from Guayaquil to Quito, addressed to General Jose Antonio Sucre, endorsed 'Servicio' and struck on front panel with GUAYAQUIL / DEVE in red. Letter written by a secretary, clearly signed at base by the liberator Juan Jose Flores, later to become the first President of Ecuador. Together with another letter from Flores to Sucre apparently all in his own hand and signed from Guayaquil by Juan Jose Flores. Reverse with Lima arrival cds (Aug 16). Cover with slight hole on front panel on 'Ch' of 'Chavez' but an extremely rare usage of this embossed marking on letter.

1 r. yellow on blued surfaced coloured paper, a superb vertical pair from lower right corner of the sheet, positions 81/90, used on March 3, 1872 cover to Lima, Peru cancelled by superb dotted 'Franca' lozenge in black. Lima cds of arrival (March 11) on reverse of a fine and most attractive cover.

1865/72: Old time collection on leaves with 1865 ½ r. blue (shades) with mint (12, including a block of four) and used (18) including rare 'dotted square' obliteration struck in blue, 1 r. yellow or buff mint (8, incl pair on quadrille paper) on various papers and used (23, including 5 pairs) including unusual example cancelled in Callao, Peru; 1872 cancellation study with ½ r. blue (66) including rare 'S. Ana / Franca' in black, another Santa Elena cds, others cancelled 'Sencil' in blue; 1 r. orange used (40) incl. 'Santa Elena' cds in red, oval 'Sencil' in blue, 'Certificacion' in blue and black, 1 p. rose mint block of six and used (12).
