    Panama 1853 (March 15): Prepaid Entire letter from San Francisco to Valparaiso Chile, endorsed "via Panama", presumably by privat transport to Panama, crowned "PAID AT PANAMA" in red on front, double arc "PANAMA AP 8 1853" datestamp in black and negative cachet of the San Francisco Commission House in blue on reverse. Paid with '2/-' sh. in Panama, noted in red crayon on front. A fine cover.

    British Post Office 1847: Entire letter from Havana to Vera Cruz, Mexico endorsed "Vapor Medway" (RMSP), prepaid '1/-' in red manuscript and struck on despatch with fair "♚ / PAID AT HAVANA" in black with reverse showing double arc HAVANA despatch cds (May 9) in black. Unusual 'II' handstamp on obverse also in black. Acid ink faults that need to be restored but a scarce entire Scott A1 = $ 1'150 / Gi = £ 1'200.

    British Post Office 1877: Great Britain 4 d. sage-green pl. 16, a used example on 1877 entire letter from Cap Haitien to St. Thomas paying the inter-island rate, tied by "E53" obliterator of Port-au-Prince in black. "Port au Prince" despatch cds below (June 10) in black with reverse showing "St. Thomas" arrival (June 14). Slight staining to the entire and ironed crease well away from the adhesive but a scarce entire Scott A55.

    British Post Office 1877: Great Britain 4 d. sage-green pl. 16, a used example on 1877 entire letter from Port-au-Prince to St. Thomas paying the inter-island rate, tied by "C59" obliterator of Jacmel in black (letter endorsed internally "pr. steamer via Jacmel"). "JACMEL / PAID" despatch cds in red at left (May 25) with reverse showing "St. Thomas" arrival (May 28). Fresh and very fine, a scarce entire Scott A13.

    British Post Office 1854: Entire letter from Tampico to Vera Cruz with "Franco / Santa Anna de Tamalaupais" (July 30) cds in black and transferred to the British P.O. with "♚ / PAID AT TAMPICO" in red, with manuscript '1/-' in red at left - as usual a somewhat watery but unusually very fine strike (or peerhaps an over-use of the linseed oil in the ink make-up). Reverse with Mexican '1' real (prepaid for the transfer between P.O.'s) and double arc TAMPICO cds in red (July 30). A rare entire Scott A1 = $ 2'250 / Gi = £ 1'800.

Reverse with San Juan despatch cds in black (May 27) and mailed via Jamaica with KINGSTON transit (June 3). New York "Steamship / 10" applied on arrival (June 24).     British Post Office 1854: Outer letter sheet from Buenos Aires to Bilbao, Spain endorsed 'por Teneriffe y Cadiz', struck with 'Buenos-Ayres' British P.O. cds on reverse and, on obverse by fine strike of "♚ / PAID AT BUENOS AYRES" handstamp in black with manuscript prepayment '1/-' in red ink alongside. Reverse with "Santa Cruz / Canarias" transit (Dec. 6) and Bilbao arrival cds (Jan. 16, 1855) both in red, rated "24 Rs." in red due upon arrival. A tad dusty and file fold but scarce Scott = $ 900 / Gi = £ 850.

Canarias' at top, struck with 'Buenos-Ayres' British P.O. cds on reverse (Aug. 2) and, on obverse by fine strike of "♚ / PAID AT BUENOS AYRES" handstamp in black with manuscript prepayment '1/-' in red ink at left. Disinfected by slits and reverse with 'Santa Cruz de Canarias' cds (Sept. 4) in red and charged with circular '4R' in same ink, Cadiz arrival cds (Sept. 28) and charged at '8R' due in blue over the 4 R. marking. A fine and attractive entire Scott = $ 900 / Gi = £ 850.

Carried on the RMSP "La Plata" during the yellow fever outbreak affecting Argentina and probably held for quarantine upon arrival as docketing of receipt states July 11th internally. A fine entire.

Struck on arrival with "Steamship / 10" on entry in black. Reverse with double arc SANTA MARTHA despatch cds (March 7) carried by RMSP "Medway" from Colon and ST. THOMAS transit (April 3) in black, where trans-shipped to the Cunard "Merlin" for the voyage to New York. A rare entire Scott A130 = $ 2'200 / Gi = £ 1'900.

    British Post Office 1852: Cover from Chicago addressed to a Midshipman on US Frigate "Raritan" at Valparaiso, Chile endorsed "via Panama", struck on despatch with "Chicago / Ill." cds (Dec. 8) with two line "RETURNED / FOR POSTAGE" in red and two strikes of "PAID" in red alongside '75' (cents) paid in manuscript and instructional marking deleted in blue ink. Fine strike of rare "♚ / PAID AT PANAMA" in red of transit and manuscript '1/-' denoting pre-payment to destination. Reverse with double arc PANAMA cds in black (Feb. 23). Some peripheral aging but a very rare usage Scott A82 = $ 2'200 / Gi = £ 1'900.
