Small Crown, perf. 16, a single example and a horizontal pair used on 1854 cover, sensibly opened for display to Dover, tied by bold strike of "✵♚✵" obliterator in black. Reverse with "POST OFFICE / BRITISH ARMY" despatch datestamp in blue (Aug. 16), London transit and Dover arrival (Aug. 28) in black. At this date the British Forces were gathered at Varna, Bulgaria, leaving for the Crimea in September 1854.
