Handwritten note "reicht nicht" and framed "B. 6 K." (Baden 6 Kreuzer) treaty handstamp in black as well as octagonal French "BADE STRASB. 11 AVRIL 69 AMB" datestamp in red alongside. Bavaria 1858 (April 7): Wrapper from Ludwigshafen to Tarbes, forwarded to Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, bearing 1850 (Oct) 1 kr. rose, plate 1, a fine and fresh example with good margins all round and a separation line at left, tied by 'geschlossenes Mühlrad' numeral '291' obliterator of Ludwigshafen with matching semicircular LUDWIGSHAFEN despatch datestamp at right. The wrapper struck in addition by "P.F." (Port frontière) handstamp showing prepayment to the border and French "BAV. FORBACH 28 AVRIL 58 AMB." entry cds, both in red. Taxed in France with '5' centimes. An extremely rare and appealing complete wrapper with full content sent with part payment abroad, an item full of postal history content. Cert. Preussen 1851 (May 30): Ornamental Cover with embossed edges (Zierbrief), sent from Tarnowitz in Silesia to Lemberg / Lvov in Austrian Galizia, forwarded to Paris, bearing Prussia 1850 3 sgr. black on yellow, a fine and fresh example with large margins, tied by 'Vierring' '1492' numeral obliterator with matching TARNOWITZ despatch cds in black alongside. The reverse was struck by Breslau-Myslowitz ambulant, KRAKAU transit and LEMBERG arrival (June 2) cds's. As the addresse was not present there, the cover was forwarded to Paris, received in transit another KRAKAU and a French "AUTR. 7 JUIN 51 VALnes" entry in red on front as well as a PARIS arrival (June 7) cds's. It was regarded as an unpaid letter from Austria and the August 1849 rate of 120 c. was taxed and noted in manuscript with '12' décimes on front. A most attractive cover full of postal history content, cert. Brettl (2009).rnNote: Cover correctly franked in the third Postverein rayon from Silesia to Galizia, correctly taxed in France as unpaid with 120 c. which was the rate for fully paid as well as unpaid single rate covers from or to Austria. The reverse with KARLSRUHE and PARIS transit as well as BORDEAUX arrival (Feb 18) cds's. Norddeutscher Postbezirk 1871 (Feb 2): Entire letter from Suhl to Paris, bearing 1869 ½ gr. orange and 2 gr. blue (2) with primarily good perfs, one adhesive separated with scissor cut, tied by clear SUHL despatch cds in black. Interesting cover which made its journey from Suhl with the German Imperial and Fieldpost to the exchange P.O. in Versailles on its way to Paris. Therefore it does not have any French datestamps. French "PRUSSE 10 DEC. 70 LILLE" entry cds in red alongside, reverse with indistinct Millau arrival cds. Taxed upon arrival with '30' (c.) taxe tampon. Germany Empire 1871 (Feb 12): Entire letter from Köln to Paris, bearing 1872 (Jan) Small shield 1 gr. carmine (2) with good perfs, tied by clear "COELN-BAHNHOF" despatch cds in black, framed "Aus dem Briefkasten" and "Affranch:insuff:" handstamps in black as well as French "PRUSSE 15 FEVR. 72 ERQUELINES" entry cds in blue alongside. Underpaid in the July 1858 tariff which was valid until May 1872, therefore taxed as unpaid with 50 c. for a single rate cover from the second Prussian rayon minus the franking resulting in '3' décimes taxe. Germany Empire 1891 (Aug 19): Stationery postcard 5 pf. green from Mainz to Aulnay de Saintogne, the indicium cancelled by MAINZ despatch cds in black. As there was no additional franking on this inland postcard, it was taxed upon arrival with twice the 6¼ c. deficiency, but only the timbre taxe type Duval 2 c. black was affixed to the card and tied by the AULNAY arrival (Aug 21) cds. Germany Empire 1894 (July 19): Large sized envelope from Fürstenstein to Paris, bearing 1889 Krone & Wertziffer 20 pf. blue with good perfs, tied by FÜRSTENSTEIN despatch cds in black. Upon arrival taxed as a letter of the 16th weight rate with twice the insufficiency using Van Dyck 1 fr. brown (two pairs and three single adhesives) plus one single Duval 50 c. black. Germany Empire 1896 (Jan 16): Formular postcard from Aachen to Segré, bearing no franking at all, struck by AACHEN despatch cds in black. Germany Empire 1874/76: Lot five covers incl. 1874 from Haguenau to Strasbourg, forwarded to Paris but refused by the addressee, sent back to Strasbourg where opened to figure out the sender, in addition three covers with the new PFENNIGE definitives used in the second half of the year when Germany had already joined the GPU while France did not, also 1877 double rate letter paid insufficiently and regarded by the French postal administration as unpaid.
