Preussen 1851 (May 30): Ornamental Cover with embossed edges (Zierbrief), sent from Tarnowitz in Silesia to Lemberg / Lvov in Austrian Galizia, forwarded to Paris, bearing Prussia 1850 3 sgr. black on yellow, a fine and fresh example with large margins, tied by 'Vierring' '1492' numeral obliterator with matching TARNOWITZ despatch cds in black alongside. The reverse was struck by Breslau-Myslowitz ambulant, KRAKAU transit and LEMBERG arrival (June 2) cds's. As the addresse was not present there, the cover was forwarded to Paris, received in transit another KRAKAU and a French "AUTR. 7 JUIN 51 VALnes" entry in red on front as well as a PARIS arrival (June 7) cds's. It was regarded as an unpaid letter from Austria and the August 1849 rate of 120 c. was taxed and noted in manuscript with '12' décimes on front. Brettl (2009).rnNote: Cover correctly franked in the third Postverein rayon from Silesia to Galizia, correctly taxed in France as unpaid with 120 c. which was the rate for fully paid as well as unpaid single rate covers from or to Austria. Preussen 1854 (May 24): Stationery envelope 3 sgr. yellow from Minden to Paris, handwritten note "insuffisient", struck aside the indicium with MINDEN despatch cds in black on front, framed "PR.3R." (Prusse 3e Rayon, vdL 2285, struck in Aachen) postal treaty handstamp as well as French "PRUSSE 26 MAI 54 VALnes" entry cds, both in red. The reverse with PARIS arrival (May 26) cds. Preussen 1866 (Oct 22): Cover from Berlin to Maillane nearby St. Rémy-de-Provence, bearing 1861 Arms 6 pf. orange and 2 sgr. blue (2), tied by BERLIN despatch cds in blue with framed Affranchissement insuffisant" handstamp in black and French "PRUSSE 24 OCT 66 ERQUELINES" entry cds in blue alongside. The reverse with PARIS transit and "ST REMY-DE-PROVENCE" arrival (Oct 25) cds's.
