    1876: Cuba 50 c. ultramarine, used on 1876 single and double rate covers to France, one with single franking from Santiago (Nov 4) to Paris with New York transit and 'T' marking in black; carried on Hamburg Line Steamer to Cherbourg with "ETATS-UNIS / 2 CHERBOURG 2" entry marking (Nov 29) in blue (Salles fig. 1802) and handstruck '8' décime charge marking in blue; the other with 1876 Cuba 50 c. ultramarine (2) carried by French Packet "Periere" with octagonal "ETATS-UNIS PAQ. FR / 2 BREST 2" in blue (Salles fig. 1721) and similarly charged with handstruck '8' décime marking in blue; each bearing '10' US credit handstamp in blue. Cuba joined the UPU on 1 May 1877. A scarce matched pair, one with cert. Graus (1989).

    Antilles 1857: Cuba ½ r. blue, two single examples with large margins all round, used on 1862 cover from Havana (Jan 24) to Bordeaux, carried by Spanish ship and endorsed "Vapor Correo Almogabar" at top, tied by barred obliterator in black. From St. Thomas (Feb 12) by British ship to London where struck with "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy handstamp and charged 8 décimes due in black: Tariff of 1 Jan 1857. Bordeaux arrival (March 5) on reverse. Flap missing but an attractive cover.

    Antilles 1857: Cuba ½ r. blue on smooth white unwatermarked paper, a horizontal pair with large margins all round and portion of adjoining stamp at left, used on small 1858 envelope to Bordeaux via British Packet and Spain, cancelled by fine oval network handstamp in black. Double ring CUBA despatch in blue (March 2) and St. Jean de Luz entry marking in red alongside (April 5), where charged with handstruck '5' décimes charge in black: Tariff of 15 July 1849 for a letter from Spain.     Antilles 1857: Cuba ½ r. blue, a single example with close to large margins all round and portion of adjoining stamp at top, used on 1862 entire letter from Santiago de Cuba (Feb 1) via Havana  to Bordeaux tied by network handstamp in black. British P.O. St. Thomas cds (Feb 28) on reverse via London where struck with "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy handstamp (March 13) and charged at double rate on arrival (over 7½ grams) with handstruck '16' décimes due in black: Tariff of 1 Jan 1857. Bordeaux arrival (March 20) on reverse. Minor file fold affects the adhesive but a scarce and attractive cover.

    Antilles 1869: USA 15 c. brown & blue, Type I, a fine example with vignette misplaced to right, tied by cork handstamp in black to 1870 entire letter from Havana (Jan 29) to Paris via New York (Feb 5) with "E.E. ROMAY & CO / 156 FRONT ST. NEW YORK" Forwarding Agent cachet in blue on reverse (Feb 5). Carried on French Steamer "Pereire" with octagonal 'ETATS-UNIS / PAQ. FR. H No. 1' in red (Salles fig. 1713). Charged with handstruck due '8' décimes in black on arrival (Feb 17 at Le Havre). A rare and fine entire. Cert. Philatelic Foundation (1981).rnrnNote: From 1 Jan 1870 prepayment was impossible, all letters being taxed 8 décimes per 10 grams.

    Antilles 1871: Cuba 25 c. ultramarine, two examples used on 1872 cover to France tied by GUANAJAY / ISLA DE CUBA datestamp in blue with French Consular "LA HAVANE" octagonal datestamp (Nov 25) in black (Salles fig. 1365) alongside. Reverse with Paquebot datestamp and three French arrivals (Dec 24), charged '12' décimes handstruck: Tariff of 1 July 1871 for a letter under 10 grams.

    Antilles 1875: Cuba 25 c. ultramarine, a single example used on 1875 cover to Lyon, manuscript cancelled in blue crayon, mailed via New York (July 15) with transit in black and treated as underpaid with '50' (cents) in black. Carried on the Hamburg Line Packet "Klopstock" with "ETATS-UNIS / 2 CHERBOURG 2" entry marking (July 27) in blue (Salles fig. 1802) and handstruck '12' décime charge marking (tariff of 1 Aug 1872) tying the adhesive in blue. France, whilst a signatory, did not join the UPU until 1 Jan 1876.

    Antilles 1883/86: Covers (2), the first with Cuba 5 c. grey, used on underpaid 1889 cover from Havana (July 23) to Paris with "T" marking in black at left, short paid 5 c., but cover taxed at double the original deficiency on arrival in Paris (Aug 8) with Postage Due 10 c. black pair and single 30 c. black (Maury T15+T18); together with 1895 stampless cover from Havana (June 21) to Paris endorsed "via Tampa" with scarce circular "T / HAVANA" of despatch, again taxed at double deficiency with France Postage Due marginal 50 c. black (Maury T20) on arrival (July 4). Some imperfections but a scarce duo.
