    Colony of Canda 1851 (May 28): Entire letter from Bytown to L'Original bearing 1851 Beaver 3 d. orange-vermilion on laid paper, a fresh adhesive with good to large margins and fresh colour, tied by clear seven ring target obliterator with "BYTOWN U.C. MAY 28 1851" datestamp in black alongside. Lightest vertical fold, not distracting at all from the beauty of this very early cover, cert. BPA (1974).rnProvenance: E. C. Fox collection.rnNote: The Province of Canada began issuing stamps on April 23, 1851, designed by Sir Sandford Fleming and processed together with the 6 d. & 12 d. adhesives by the firm of Rawdon, Wright, Hatch and Edson of New York. In April 1851, the rate for inland letters to Canada, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island was 3 d. per ½ oz.

    1851 (May 15): Entire letter from Montreal to New York (Kennedy correspondence) bearing 1851 Prince Albert 6 d. slate violet on laid paper, a fresh and fine adhesive with good to huge margins including part of the lower neighbouring stamp, tied by seven ring target obliterator. "MONTREAL L.C. SP 24 1851" datestamp, straight line PAID and matching framed CANADA in arc exchange office handstamp, all in red alongside.     1858 (Jan 22): Envelope from Montreal to St. Thomas bearing 1855/57 Beaver 3 d. brown-red on handmade wove paper, a fresh adhesive with good to enormous margins and fresh colour including parts of the upper neighbouring stamp, tied by '21' ring target obliterator of Montreal with despatch cds in black alongside. Reverse with arrival cds (Jan. 25). An appealing cover, opinion Holcombe (1991).
