1873: Lithographed 1 peso dull yellow, perf. 11¾, an unused block of four of rich colour, centred somewhat to left, the lower two stamps with thin spots and each with tiny black ink spots not greatly detracting from the frontal appearance, unused without gum. Despite the imperfections this is a magnificent block in the circumstances - whilst Lind / Goodman recorded eight pairs of this stamp (one used pair was recently sold by Corinphila in Moorhouse sale II, lot 4058) - this is the sole recorded block of four of this stamp. A rarity of Central American and classic philately. Unique Gi 6 = £ 1'000+/Scott = $ 1'400+.rnrnProvenance: Illustriertes Briefmarken-Journal, July 1932.rn Collection David E. Taxed upon arrival and '50' (centesimi) noted with blue crayon on obverse, two 10 c. due and a missing 30 c. stamp used to pay this. Reverse with Genova arrival cds (Dec 11, 1875). Some toning on front and reverse, stamps with faults, nevertheless a scarce usage.rnNote: Most of the few existing covers with Liberty Head stamps are dated 1877-1879. 1879: The ubiquitous ¼ real black on buff postal stationery card, the reply half, used locally within Guatemala City cancelled by octagonal "Correos / Guatemala" datestamp in violet (Feb 28, 1879). The card, with tiny corner wrinkles mentioned for accuracy, is addressed to a German businessman from the Franco-German bussinessman, Sebastián Chenal trying to collect on a debt. Whilst amongst the most common of all unused postal stationery cards (the stock was purchased for use as advertising cards by Errington & Martin, stamp dealers in London), the card in used condition can be considered a rarity.Ausruf : 400 CHFZuschlag : 460 CHFLosnr. : 44 Guatemala

Reverse with 'Guatemala' octagonal transit in blue /July 15). The envelope further cancelled in transit by 'San Francisco' cds (Aug 12) and taxed with 1878 Postage Due 5 c. brown pair. Slight opening tears at lower right but very rare - Goodman (Volume I, pages 84-87) records just four usages of the 2 reales envelope. Rare.Ausruf : 350 CHFZuschlag : 550 CHFLosnr. : 45 Guatemala

1894 (July 14): Provisional 2 c. on 100 c. red-brown, the unused vertical pair with variety "Pair, One without Surcharge", superbly centred and of fine colour - an immensely rare pair with just seven examples possible in this form. See Goodman, 'Guatemala 1' page 150 where this error is discussed: just 10 pairs printed with a block of six (three pairs) recorded and thus just seven vertical pairs can exist.
