    Cape of Good Hope 1858: 1 s. bright yellow-green, a fine large margined example used on 1860 small cover to Bourg sur Gironde, France tied by CGH obliterator in black. Manuscript '11' credit to UK at right in red crayon alongside 'London / Paid' cds July 30) in red and Calais entry marking. Reverse with 'Cape Town / Cape of Good Hope' cds in red (June 21) of despatch and Bourg Sur Gironde arrival datestamps. A particularly attractive and rare cover. Signed A. Diena.

    Note: The rate to France in 1859 was 7d. per ¼ ounce and 14d. (1/2d.) per ½ ounce. In 1861 this was to rise to 8d. per ¼ ounce and 16d. (1/4d.) per ½ ounce. It appears this cover was either an over-payment of 5d. or an underpayment of 2d.
