    1856 (Sept 8): Unpaid entire letter to Helsingör, Denmark endorsed "per Steamer via Southampton", struck with straight line "LISBON" of British P.O. in black and rated "1/11d." in manuscript due. Reverse with London transit cds (Sept 13) in red and Danish P.O. in Hamburg transit (Sept 15) in black. Manuscript ratings of '31' (schillinge) and '108' (skilling) due from recipient.
    Note: Rated 1s. 9d. (less 2 d. when posted onwards) + 4 d. from London to Denmark = 1s. 11d. This amount was rounded up to 19½ silvergroschen + 3½ sgr = German share = 23 sgr. This amount was equivalent to 31 schillinge or 99 skilling + 9 skilling Danish share = 108 skilling due.

    1858: 25 reis rose used on 1860 cover from Lisbon to Aalborg, Denmark tied by dotted "1" in black with despatch cds adjacent, thence via St. Jean de Luz (April 10). Reverse with Badajoz transit cds in blue (April 4) and Thurn & Taxis and Danish P.O. in Hamburgs cds's (April 11). The Portuguese 25 reis paid only the internal rate and thus treated as an unpaid letter from France (2½ sgr = French share, ½ sgr. = Belgian share, 3 sgr = German share = 6 sgr = 26 skilling + 9 sk. for Danish share. Charged "35" skilling due on receipt in red manuscrript on front. A rare cover, very few stamped letters from Portugal to Denmark are recorded in the pre-UPU period.

Franked on reverse with overprinted 1906 20 r. deep lilac and 50 r. ultramarine lightly tied by "Angra" cds. Lisbon transit below (Aug 23) and Gand arrival cds. An unusual usage.

    Mozambique 1906 (Dec 27): Registered usage of Newspaper Wrapper imprinted "S.N.R." and "Da Imprensa Nacional de Mozambique" used to London, franked by Lourenco Marques 1898 10 r. yellow-green and 1903 50 r. pale brown tied by "Lourenco Marques" cds. Black on orange registration label at left and reverse with London arrival (Jan 19, 1907). Slight ageing but a most unusual cover.

    Mozambique 1909 (Aug 18): Postcard sent registered from 'Lourenco Marques'  to Germany franked on front and back of card with 1898/1901 and 1903 2½ r. grey (nine examples), 5 r. orange (3), 10 r. pale green (2) and 15 r. dull green (3) all neatly tied by "Deutsche Seepost / Ost-Afrikanische-Hauptlinie" datestamps in black; and by 'Lourenco Marques' registration cachet over "Deutsche Seepost / Ostafrikalinie" registration label.     Mozambique Company 1924 (Feb 9): 20 r. grey-lilac postal stationery card optd. "Republica" in red, sent registered to Germany and multi-franked by Waterlow 1918 ¼ c.
