    1859 (June 7): 1d. rose + 4d. deep blue + 1s. bright yellow green cancelled by triangular "CGH" obliteration, endorsed "Cradock JU 7 1859", red "London Paid JY 29", oval framed "P" handstamped and "Franco" in black on prepaid single weight envelope to Denmark (over franked by ½ d.), backstamped Cape Town (13.6..59), Hamburg (31.7.) and "St.P.A." datestamps. 1d. and 2d. with wide margins all round, 1s. with wide margins on two sides and clear at left (slightly rubbed on top). A fresh  three colour franking fully paid to destination, 6d. letter rate to London plus 4d. British share for letters to Denmark and 6 ½ d. credited forward to the German Austrian Postal Union, who credited 2 sgr. forward to Denmark. Only two covers with complete Cape of Good Hope frankings known to Denmark Cert. BPA (2013).

    South Africa: Cape of Good Hope 1855: Entire letter sent unpaid to Copenhagen, Denmark at double rate, endorsed 'p. str. Bahiana' struck on reverse with superb oval CAPE TOWN in red (Sept 20), and framed "Liverpool / Ship" in black (Nov 3). Red London cds and re-endorsed at top 'p. Imparador via Ostend', with 1 shilling charge in manuscript and thence via Danish P.O. in Hamburg (Nov 5). Total charge due of 68 skilling noted on reverse: 1 shilling = 10 sgr. + 3¾ sgr for German share (13¾ sgr. in blue ink) = 59 skilling + 9 sk. for Danish share (opens well for display). Also a double rate entire dated November 1855 charged in manuscript at 135 skilling on reverse. A fine and scarce pair of entires to an unusual destination.

    1853/64: Collection in blue Godden album, with Perkins Bacon 1853 1 d. brick red on blued (10) including three used pairs; 4 d. blue (shades) with 4 used examples, 1 d. brick on slightly blued paper (Gi 3) with 13 examples incl. two used blocks of four; 4 d. on slightly blued paper with 34 examples incl. multiples; 1855-63 second issue with 1 d. (10 examples in differing shades), 4 d. (10) and 6 d. in differing shades with mint (2) and used (12), 1 s. green with mint (2) and used (11); 1861 Woodblocks with 1 d. vermilion used (2), 4 d. (5), 1863-64 DLR printing 1 d. with mint pair and used (8), 4 d. mint and used (15, including two fine pairs); 6 d. mauve mint single and pair (cert.) and used (4), 1 s. emerald mint (cert.) and used (4), also four covers bearing 4 d. values, one with a pair. A dramatic and highly catalogued collection in generally excellent condition. Viewing is a recommended pleasure Gi = £48'000+.
