GRISSOM / SPACECRAFT "LIBERTY BELL 7' in blue. The Mercury-Redstone 4 was the second United States human spaceflight July 21, 1961. The spacecraft Mercury capsule #11, was nicknamed 'Liberty Bell 7' and was piloted by astronaut Virgil "Gus" Grissom. 1851: Remarkable tiny entire letter (63 x 33 mm.) with embossed colourless illustration of lady on horseback with wreathed "TO" below, endorsed "per Express" addressed to "J.C. Kindman, Present" and reverse with paper seal reading "IF YOU NEGLECT ME YOU LOSE ME". The love letter enclosed reads: "Agawam¹ '51, Tues. Eve; My dear Charles, Are you still in the land of the living? If so, permit me who am so much the younger of the twain to speak a word to thee. Why in the world do we not either see you, hear from you, or let us know the reason why? Do you know how it grieves me to see you so negligent? Oh! Charles! "You'll break my heart, I fear you will, if you continue so" ² If you do not write soon I fear you will never receive another such a long letter from me as this. Yours to the end, Hannah".rn1. Air Mail 1932: Washington 3 c. purple, used on official First Transatlanic Flight cover from New York to Kaunas, Lithuanian, dated 15 July 1933, tied by Brooklyn duplex in black, carried on the ill fated 'Lituanica' which crash in Poland 650km away from the intended destination, with event postmark in black alongside the commemorative cachet in violet, cover number '270' (there being 983 sold to support the flight costs), to the reverse a Kaunas arrival dated 18 July 1933.rnNote: The 'Lituanica' was a Bellanca CH-300 Pacemaker airplane flown from New York across the Atlantic by Lithuanian pilots Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas in 1933. After successfully flying 6,411 km (4,043 miles), it crashed, due to undetermined circumstances, 650 km (404 miles) from its destination, Kaunas, Lithuania.
