    1859: 10 gr. 'azzurro cupo' in a horizontal pair with retouche on pos. 11 together with 2 gr. 'azzuro vivo' from plate III, fine and fresh examples with good to huge margins, each tied by bold 'ferro di cavallo' handstamp, two-line "MESa 1859 / 7 NOVe" despatch cds alongside. Sent with French vessel 'Pansillipe' to Genova, where struck by "PIROSCAFI POSTALI FRANCESI" in red and taxed with '2' decimi, arrival datestamp in red on reverse. Light horizontal file fold well away from the adhesives, some acid ink imperfections at base of cover, nevertheless an appealing double rate item. Ex collection Provera, cert.     1859: Group five letters within Sicily and a part letter abroad, incl. pair 1 gr., two single frankings 2 gr., and single 1 gr. plus pair 2 gr., originating from Palermo, Catania, Messina and Canicatti with oval handstamp in red; the part cover with 20 gr. plus 2 gr. from Messina with French vessel to Genova. An appealing group, four of them ex stock Renato Mondolfo. Sassone = € 20'800.
