    British Post Office 1855: Cover with complete contents from Valparaiso to Boston, USA prepaid and struck on despatch with "♚ / PAID AT VALPARAISO" in red with '1/-' notation at left in red. Flap shows double arc VALPARAISO despatch cds (May 15) in black. The Crown Circle over-struck with "Steamship / 20" entry marking in black (single rate cover over 2'500 miles). The letter, in English, is a readable, chatty and interesting view of life in Valparaiso Scott A54 = $ 450 / Gi = £ 450.

    British Post Office 1867/70: Great Britain 6 d. violet pl. 6, a horizontal pair used on 1869 cover to New York endorsed "via Panama / Paid", tied by "VALPARISO / C30" duplex (April 5) in black. PANAMA transit cds at left (April 20) and charged on entry with "N.Y. Steamship / 10" datestamp in black (May 2). Scarce. Provenance: Robson Lowe, London, 1949.
