    1862/64: 1 s. rose-lake on hand-made paper, imperforate, a diagonally bisected example, upper left corner with large margins on both sides, used on 1863 cover from St. John's to Vendôme, France, endorsed "p. Adriatic" of the Galway Line; tied by barred obliterator in black with "ST.JOHNS - NEWFOUNDLAND" despatch cds in red adjacent (Nov 21). London transit on reverse (Nov 30) and struck there with framed "GB / 1F 60 c." accountancy marking in black, over-struck by "MORE-TO-PAY" handstamp in black with '2d.' in blue crayon alongside (short paid 2d. on despatch), British credit '5' (pence) in red at upper left. "Angl. / Calais" entry marking (Nov 30) also ties the adhesive and charged there with handstruck '8' décimes due in black. Light file folds of no importance with just three examples of this stamp bisected on letter are recorded. Listed in Robert H.
