    1870/71: France Siège 40 c. orange (2) used on 1872 cover from Alexandria to Marseille tied by "5080" gros chiffres with 'Alexandrie / Egypte' cds below (March 19). Found to be double weight and struck with "AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFISANT". rnFramed 'Paquebots / de la / Mediterranee' in red and charged '12' décimes handstruck (Unpaid double letter 2 fr. - less 80 c. = 1 fr. 20 c. to pay), A fine and rare usage.

    1870/71: France Bordeaux 40 c. orange (Maury 48), margins large to just touched, used on 1871 cover to Bordeaux tied by "5119" gros chiffres of cairo with "LE CAIRE / BAU. FRANCAIS" cds at right (July 3). Underpaid under the new tariff on 1 July 1871 of 80 centimes for 10 grams and taxed with framed "AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFISANT" alongside '6' décimes charge marking (Unpaid letter 1 fr. - less 40 c. = 60 c. to pay). Reverse with Alexandrie cds (July 4) and Bordeaux arrival (July 12). a rare usage of this issue in Cairo and an attractive cover.

    1888/90: 5 m. carmine, an interpanneau marginal pair on reverse of 1893 cover to Paris tied by "Port Said" cds (March 17), carried on the "Saghalien" Steamer with octagonal "LIGNE N / PAQ. FR. No. 7" on obverse with triangular "T" mark below and found to be double weight; taxed on arrival with Duval 1881 50 c. black (Maury T20) tied by triangular handstamp in black, paying double the unpaid deficiency. Scarce.

    1888: 1 m. brown strip of three used on 1896 cover from Cairo to Marseille tied by Cairo datestamps (Oct 9), taxed on arrival in France with 1893 Postage Due 5 c. blue and 30 c. carmine (Maury T28+T33) tied by Marseille cds (Oct 18). Returned as refused with "RETOUR / L'ENVOYEUR / 2240" in black and taxed again in Cairo with Egypt 1889/1907 Postage Due 4 m. maroon and 1 pi. ultramarine (Gi D72+D73) tied by Cairo cds's (Nov 5). A fine and unusual cover.
