    1853 (Sept): 4 d. deep blue on lightly blued paper, a fresh and fine pair with good to large margins, tied by light oval "POST - RETIEF" datestamp (July 19, 1860) to cover directed to Capetown, reverse with oval CAPE TOWN arrival datestamp (July 26) in red. A rare cancellation with the despatch datestamp not the CGH obliterator, in addition a very early usage of this datestamp. Cert. Richter BPP (1993).

    1855: 4 d. deep blue on white paper, a fresh and fine adhesive with enormous margins and parts of five adjoining stamps, tied by neat CGH obliterator to cover from Port Elizabeth to Graaff-Reinet, crisp oval despatch datestamp (July 8, 1859), on reverse. Attractive cover.

    De La Rue printing 1863/64: 4 d. blue, a fine example with good to huge margins all, tied by CGH obliterator to 1864 cover to the Civil Commissioner in Stellenbosch. Reverse with oval PAARL despatch datestamp (Nov 10) and STELLENBOSCH oval arrival datestamp of the same day, both in red. Slightest vertical file fold, a sound cover.

    De La Rue Printing 1863/64: 1 s. bright emerald-green, a used example with ample to huge margins all round and portion of adjoining stamp at base,  in a vibrant shade, lightly tied by CGH obliterator to 1863 cover to London. Reverse with circular CAPE TOWN / CAPE OF GOOD HOPE datestamp (June 20) in red. Front struck by "LONDON PAID' arrival cds in red (July 22). A most attractive cover with this extremely rare franking.
